Pokhara is known for its landscape, natural beauty, scenic mountain range, and adventure activities. It is now the tourist capital of the country. It offers various tourist destinations and an array of cousins suitable for people of different tastes. We recommend you take your time in Pokhara however, if you’re visiting Pokhara for a short time, a day trip can be incredibly fulfilling. Here’s a comprehensive itinerary to help you make the most of a single day in this enchanting city.

6:00 AM – Sunrise at Sarangkot
Start your day early with a trip to Sarangkot to witness the sunrise over the hills. The first beam of sun shines the mountains into a golden shade. It is a bliss to the eye. The panoramic views of the mountain ranges, including the iconic Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machapuchare (Fishtail), are breathtaking. You can hire a taxi/scooter or take a cable car to reach the viewpoint. We recommend you dress warmly as it is relatively colder up there.

8:00 AM – Breakfast by Phewa Lake
After the sunrise, head back to the city and enjoy a breakfast of your choice at one of the lakeside cafes along Phewa Lake. The peaceful ambiance and stunning lake views are a perfect way to start your day.

9:30 AM – Boating on Phewa Lake
Pokhara is also known for Phewa Lake, the second-largest lake in the country. You can either hire a boat with a boatman or paddle yourself. Tal Barahi, a famous temple amongst Hindus and tourists is located on an island in the middle of the lake. Visiting the temple is highly recommended. You can also take a standup paddle boat or kayak on the lake.

Noon – Visit Davis Falls and Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave
Next, visit Davis Falls, also known as Patale Chhango. The waterfall disappears into an underground tunnel. Right across the road from Davis Falls is the Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, a sacred cave with a Shiva shrine. The cave is said to have been discovered by a priest after lord Shiva came to his dream and guided him to dig into it.

1:30 PM – Lunch at a Lakeside
After visiting the cave, head back to the lakeside and enjoy the cuisine of your choice for lunch. Pokhara offers a lot of options, from local to international dishes. Thakali dal bhat is highly recommended, as Nepali people say, “Dal Bhat Power – 24 hours.”

3:00 PM-International Mountain Museum
After lunch, visit the International Mountain Museum. The museum provides insights into the mountaineering history of the Himalayas, the culture and lifestyle of mountain tribes, and the region’s geology. It’s an educational and inspiring experience for people of all age groups.

4:30 PM – World Peace Pagoda & Shiva Statue
Next, take a ride to the World Peace Pagoda and Shiva Temple. These two destinations are 10-15 minutes’ drive away. The Peace Pagoda is a religious monument of the Buddhists. In contrast, the Shiva temple is a religious monument of the Hindus. Both places offer panoramic views of Phewa Lake, Pokhara City, and the surrounding mountains. The scenic views from these destinations are perfect for reflection and relaxation.

6:00 PM – Explore Lakeside Market
Return to Lakeside and spend some time strolling the vibrant Lakeside Market. This bustling place is filled with shops selling handicrafts, souvenirs, clothing, and local art. It’s a great place to pick up gifts and mementos for your loved ones. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the lakeside and soak in the lively atmosphere. You can grab a matka chai or fresh juice beside the footpath
7:30 PM – Snacks & Dinner
After you stroll beside the lake, return to your hotel. Grab a drink and snacks of your choice and reflect on the day’s adventure. You can also arrange a campfire and barbeque at the hotel. Listen to the music of your choice, play board games, talk to the family, and enjoy the dinner of your choice.
